Providing the community a safe environment to live in is our main goal as a Police Department. This is achieved by delegating tasks to various divisions. The 23 Officers assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division are charged with the responsibility of providing a variety of services. They must preserve the public peace and order, while honoring and protecting the rights of individuals; prevent and repress criminal activity, apprehend criminal offenders, enforce traffic safety laws and regulate other conduct pertinent to the public health, safety and welfare, recover and return property, and provide such other services as are needed to protect persons and property.

These goals are achieved by having a police presence within the neighborhoods to reduce the opportunity for criminal activity and to apprehend those persons who do engage in such activities; by regulating the flow of traffic on the streets throughout the City. This entails enforcement as well as education. Enforcement is accomplished by using radar equipment, parking control and investigation of accidents.

Crime Prevention Tips - Auto Theft Prevention
1. Never leave your keys in the ignition, not even at home or in a parking lot. It's an open invitation to theft.
2. "Hiding" spare keys under the carpeting or over a sun visor is about as clever as leaving a house key under a doormat. Thieves know all the obvious places to look.
3. Do not leave luggage, packages, or other easily removed items in view inside your automobile. Lock your property in the trunk.
4. Automobile thieves frequent streets and parking areas in the vicinities of public gatherings. Do not take needless risks by leaving valuables in your car when it is not necessary to be transporting them.
5. Avoid transferring items to the trunk of a vehicle at a location where it is to be parked. A thief may be watching. Checkbooks, credit cards, or credentials that a thief could misuse should not be left in a car.
6. At night park in a lighted area, preferably close to a corner where a potential thief may realize that he is more likely to be observed.
7. Put an identification mark on removable accessories, cell phones, hubcaps or other items left in or on the vehicle. Thousands of dollars worth of automobile parts are sold at auction every year by police departments around the country because the rightful owners could not be located.
8. If your car is broken into or stolen, inform the police of the loss immediately. Stolen vehicle frequently are used in the commission of other crimes.
