Police work is constantly evolving to keep up with a changing society. We are always looking for ways to improve our service to the community. We believe that "bridging the gap" between Police and Citizens will create a unity that is irreplaceable in fighting crime. In May of 2000 we started our Bike Patrol Division as another method of forming that unity.

There are currently 6 Officers assigned to the Bike Patrol Division. They spend time performing duties associated with the Patrol Division and participate in the Bike Patrol. These Officers have volunteered for this assignment as a way to get in touch with the public they serve.

As far as fighting crime goes bicycles are very useful. Officers have been able to approach crimes in progress without being noticed by the suspects. Our Officers are encouraged to stop and talk to people who are out and about. This improves public relations and promotes proactive solutions for the prevention of crime.

If you encounter one of our Bike Patrol Officers feel free to stop and chat a while. We believe that both you and the Police Department will benefit from the encounter.
